The ingredients needed to make Rava upma:
  1. Prepare 1 cup rava
  2. Take 2.5 cups water
  3. Prepare Salt as per taste
  4. Make ready 1/2 sugar
  5. Get 1/4 cup sweet corn

  7. Take 1/2 cup chopped carrot
  8. Make ready 1/4 cup fresh/frozen green peas

It is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish and usually served with coconut chutney, peanut chutney, podi or any pickle. Rava Upma is a thick, porridge-like breakfast recipe that is made from course semolina that has been dry-roasted. Rava Upma or Uppittu recipe is one of the common breakfast recipes prepared in Karnataka. In many hotels, this upma and kesaribath is served together as chow chow bath.

Steps to make Rava upma:
  1. Turn on the flame and heat a pan on low on flame.
  2. Add rava and roast for 4-5minutes on low medium flame.
  3. Once it is roasted,take it out from the pan and keep it aside.
  4. Heat the pan add oil and let it heat properly on medium flame.
  5. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds., Channa to dal and urad dal.
  6. Fry it for 1 minute on low medium flame and keep stirring.
  7. Add grated ginger and green chillies and onion,fry it for few seconds.
  8. Add vegetables and tomatoes and turmeric powder and mix well and cover the pan and cook it for 2-3 minutes on low medium flame.
  9. Open the lid and stir it.
  10. Add salt,sugar and water(1cup rava-2.5 cup water) and increase the flame to medium high and stir it.
  11. Cover the pan and let it come to boil.
  12. Open the lid and stir it and add roasted rava in pan and stir continuously and mix it well.
  13. Cover the pan and cook it for 5-6 minutes on low medium flame.
  14. After 5minutes open the lid and stir it.
  15. Turn off the flame and cover the pan and leave it for 2-3 minutes.
  16. Open the lid and take it out in serving plate.
  17. Upma ie ready to serve.

In some places, Kharabath is served instead of uppittu. Upma is a traditional Indian breakfast made with sooji (also called rava in south).
