Jangiri is a juicy inside, crispy outside sugar coated sweet which is very popular in South India. Some people will make mini Jangiri in Jalebi design which became popular among kids nowadays.. Jangiri is made with urad dal where as Jilebi is made with Maida/all purpose flour.

To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can have imrati/jangiri using 6 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Imrati/Jangiri:
  1. Prepare 3/4 th cup Urad Dal
  2. Take 1.5 cup Sugar
  3. Make ready as required Water
  4. Take 1 tbsp Lemon Extract
  5. Prepare few drops Orange Colour
  6. Take as required Oil / Ghee for shallow fry

Jangiri Recipe with step by step pictures. This Jangiri recipe is from ammas old cookbook. Jangiri or Jhangiri is a very popular indian sweet prepared for Diwali or any other festive occasions. Alternative names include Amriti, Emarti, Omriti, Jahangir and Jaangiri.

Steps to make Imrati/Jangiri:
  1. Soak the urad dal for 2 hours or overnight. Grind into a smooth paste without adding much water. Beat it vigorously to make it fluffy and light. Add a few drops of red colour and beat again.
  2. Now take a zip lock bag or any plastic bag and fill the batter into it.
  3. Now heat a saucepan and the sugar and 1/4 cup water. Let it boil until sugar dissolves. Switch off just before you reach the one string consistency. Add the lemon juice. It's important to add lemon extract, otherwise your sugar syrup will get crystalized. So do not skip.
  4. Now heat a wide pan with oil for shallow fry. Keep the flame on low. Now give a small cut in the corner of the filled come and start pressing it and make two circles first and then try to make flower shapes.
  5. Cook both sides for 2-3 minutes and immerse directly into the sugar syrup. Let it soak in the syrup for few minutes. Take out and serve. If you feel raw smell of urad dal, allow it to sit aside for more time as the sugar syrup needs to get inside.

This dish is not to be confused with Jalebi which has comparatively thinner material and is sweeter than Imarti. Traditional Sweet Item Jangiri By Grandma But mami my jangiri drink oil very much wat mistake.if I put in oil the jangiri also get double in size hi I tried the jangiri recipe. it was soft not crispy and also the sugar syrup did not penetrate all the way. Jangiri is a traditional sweet made with urad dal. It is commonly prepared during Diwali in Tamil Nadu.
