  6. Prepare 1 medium sized tomato
  7. Get 4-5 Few curry
  8. Make ready 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  9. Prepare 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  10. Make ready 1/2 cup roasted chana dal powder

Puffed rice is a grain made from rice. Uggani is a variety in Upma made from Puffed rice. One can find it very common in North Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh. Fill water into a large bowl and pour puffed rice into it.

Instructions to make Uggani/ puffed rice upma:
  1. Soak the puffed rice in water for 5 min.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and allow them to splutter.
  3. Now add the chopped onions, tomatoes and crushed green chilli, ginger garlic paste, salt, turmeric and saute till onions and tomatoes become translucent.
  4. Remove the water from the soaked puffed rice and squeeze them between palms until the excess water is drained out from them
  5. Add this puffed rice into the prepared onion,tomato gravy and mix well. Finally add the finely powdered roasted chana dal in it and mix well.

Wash it well and immediately drain it out of water. Use both your palms to squeeze out excess water from puffed. finally, enjoy churumuri susla / puffed rice upma for your breakfast or snacks. notes: firstly, make sure to not over soak or over squeeze churumuri. also, susla can be topped with sev while serving. additionally, add tomato along with onions and skip lemon juice for variation.
