Hey everyone, it’s Drew, welcome to my recipe page. Today, we’re going to make a distinctive dish, sambar. One of my favorites. This time, I’m gonna make it a little bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.

Sambar is one of the most popular of current trending foods on earth. It is appreciated by millions every day. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. They are nice and they look wonderful. Sambar is something that I have loved my entire life.

Sambar - south Indian lentil stew made with vegetables, lentils and a special blend of spices. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants here make really bad sambar. Sambar recipe with step by step photos.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook sambar using 23 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Sambar:
  1. Prepare 2 cups tuvar dal
  2. Make ready 2 tbsp tamarind paste
  3. Get as per taste Salt
  4. Make ready 2 tbsp corrainder leaves
  5. Make ready 1 tsp turmeric
  6. Get For Vegetables–
  7. Prepare 2 medium sized onion chopped
  8. Make ready 2 big drumsticks
  9. Prepare 2 carrot finely chopped
  10. Get 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  11. Make ready 2 tbsp ready made sambar powder
  12. Take 2 garlic cloves/ Ginger garlic paste
  13. Make ready For tempering–
  14. Get 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  15. Prepare 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  16. Take 1/2 tsp curry leaves
  17. Make ready 2 Dry red chillies
  18. Prepare Pinch hing
  19. Prepare Pinch methi
  20. Make ready 2 tbsp oil
  21. Prepare 2 tbsp dry chilli powder
  22. Prepare 1 tbsp corrainder powder
  23. Get as required Water

Sambar is a traditional South Indian stew that goes well with idli, dosa, steamed rice or can be served as a soup. Any South Indian meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, would be considered incomplete without Sambhar or one of its variants. Sambar, a hot and spicy lentil soup with mixed vegetables, is a must have accompaniment for popular South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada, Steamed Rice etc. A few years back Sambar used to be defined as South Indian delicacy, confined only to the Southern states of India.

Instructions to make Sambar:
  1. Wash and soak dal for 30 mins. After that add it in pressure cooker adding little chopped onion,1 garlic cloves little chopped tomato pinch turmeric salt and cook upto 3 whistle. It should cooked smooth
  2. Take a pan or kadai add oil to heat. Once heat add cumin seeds mustard seeds hing curry leaves dry chilli methi. Once fragrant release add chopped onion.once it gets transculent add chopped tomatoes ginger garlic paste and saute. Now add all cut veggies and saute for 2 mins mix everything.add dry masala sambar masala and mix everything add little water
  3. Mix vegetables and cook for some time. Once it get cooked pour vegetable mix in dal and mix it. Add tamarind paste and little jaggery cover the lid. Add water accordingly as per requirement. Sambar should be little thick. Pour little ghee with a spoon around it.
  4. Once get cooked garnish with corrainder leaves and serve it in serving bowl
  5. Note- I have used readymade sambar masala packet. U can make it at home also. I will share recipe in next page.

I have used homemade sambar powder to make sambar recipe. But store-bought powder will work Wash and chop all the veggies you want to add to the sambar. I have used carrots, baingan (small.
